St.Augustine Distillery just released its Florida Double Cask Bourbon which is the first bourbon to be barreled in Florida since Prohibition. They hired an all star team to help bring the project life which includes Jake Norris, founding distiller of Stranahan’s Colorado Whiskey, and Dave Pickerell, former master distiller of Maker’s Mark.
The bourbon has been aging in large wood oak barrels since December 2013, four months before the distillery opened. Aging the spirits in the Florida heat and humidity gives this bourbon some characteristics that cannot be replicated in other states.
Our barrels don’t get cool. They don’t necessarily rest, so we get a lot of the wood, color, and extraction much faster than in other states, which makes for richer, complex flavors. – Philip McDaniel
The bottles will retail around $50 and can be picked up on the distilleries online retailer or in their gift shop.
