Top 10 Things To Do In St. Augustine

Whether its great food, drinks, historic sites, or even ghosts, St. Augustine has something for everyone. Here’s a list of 10 places I highly recommend visiting when traveling to St. Augustine.

1. Zoological Farm

The St. Augustine Zoological Park is the only place in the world where you can see all 24 species of crocodiles. Enjoy seeing wild reptiles, lemurs, toucans, and so much more. It opened in 1893 and is one of the oldest attractions in St. Augustine. Become eye-level with exotic birds and dangle across crocodiles in a 30 or 60 ft high zip line, or free fall 40 ft down in the air. Visit their website for ticket prices and more information.

2. Castillo De San Marcos

The Castillo De San Marcos is one of the oldest forts in the continental United States and was built to protect Spain’s claims in the New World. It’s over 315 years old; making it the oldest structure in St. Augustine. Walk in the rooms that soldiers and prisoners actually stayed in or visit the gun deck for an amazing view of the city.

3. St. Augustine’s Distillery

Experience the taste of Florida at St. Augustine’s Distillery. St. Augustine’s Distillery utilizes local Florida ingredients to make rum, whiskey, and gin; and they do in an historic ice plant. The Historic FP&L Ice Plant was built as part of St. Augustine’s first power and ice complex in 1907. They restored it to create unique craft spirits. Take a break and have a drink on Riberia street! Visit their website for more info.

4. Pirate Museum

One of my favorite places in St. Augustine: Pirate & Treasure Museum. Go back in time to 300 years ago in Port Royal, Jamaica, and become a pirate for a day. Or forever. Totally up to you. An exciting, educational, and interactive experience for children and adults that has you follow a treasure map to find all the hidden treasures. See artifacts from the Red Sea and experience what it was like to be a real life pirate!

5. Old Jail

This historic and haunted Old Jail was opened in St. Augustine from 1891-1953. Visitors can take a tour in the day or night (highly suggest at night) to experience the history of the inmates who once occupied the cells. The Old Jail is also one of St. Augustine’s many haunted sites.

6. Fountain of Youth

The Fountain of Youth Archaeological Park is a 15-acre waterfront and the site of the first Spanish settlement in the new world and the oldest European settlement in North America. The story goes if anyone drinks from the fountain or bathes in it, your youth will forever be restored…

7. Ripley’s Believe It Or Not

“Believe It Or Not,” the Ripley’s in St. Augustine is actually the first permanent location of Ripley’s, ever. See Robert Ripley’s original collection along with over 800 more bizarre exhibit in a historic castle for an interactive experience. See shrunken heads, animal oddities, and so, so much more.

8. Cousteau’s Waffle and Milkshake Bar

Enjoy amazing hand-spun milkshakes and Belgian waffles located in St. Augustine’s historic district. 9. St. Augustine Lighthouse & Maritime Museum

St. Augustine’s Lighthouse is personally one of my favorite haunted places in St. Augustine. Climb 219 steps to the top of the lighthouse to see breathtaking views of the city and water. Enjoy behind the scenes tour to learn about the role the Light Station played in the city’s history or a ghost tour late at night. The “Dark of the Moon” tour is a guided paranormal tour where guests can learn about the spooky history behind the keeper’s house and conduct their own paranormal investigation.

Did you know that St. Augustine has over 6 breweries? So if you’re looking for beer, this city has got you covered. Enjoy local craft beer at A1A Ale Works, Dog Rose, Old Coast, Bog Brewing, Brewz and Dogz, or Ancient City.
