Have you ever had the craving for the perfect drink? One that is flavorful, refreshing, hydrating, bubbly and not full of sugar & high fructose corn syrup? Well, I think I have finally found that drink and it is called Water Kefir. It has actually been around for hundreds of years but is now gaining some popularity again with the modern interest in natural wellness. It is pretty much like a healthy soda that is full of live probiotics that are beneficial to your stomach and body.
Whenever I am not busy editing a video or adjusting my ad bids, I am usually scrolling endlessly through my Instagram feed. That is exactly how I found Sunny Culture, a new company that brews & bottles Water Kefir. At first glance, it is easy to confuse the water kefir with a bottle of Kombucha but it is actually different. It does have many of the same health benefits as Kombucha, if not more.
You may be wondering if this is the same kefir as milk or dairy kefir and the answer is NO! The live water kefir grains used to brew Water Kefir is completely dairy and gluten free. So what is a water kefir grain?
A “grain” consists of bacteria and yeast living in a symbiotic relationship, however the term “grain” only describes the look and actually contains no grain. If you are still confused, take a look at the picture below for reference. The live kefir grains are them fermented using organic cane sugar which then creates the natural carbonation in the drink. During the fermentation process, most of the organic sugar is “eaten” making this drink even more healthy.
Now that you know a little about how the drink is made, let’s move on to how it tastes. To start, I have only tried the Hibiscus flavored water kefir but Sunny Culture offers several flavors including ginger, which I am excited to try. The hibiscus water kefir was delicious. It was a perfect drink to start the day off with. It had a nice sweet, floral taste with the perfect amount of effervescence. I shared some with my girlfriend Jesse and she loved it as well. Together we drank the whole 32oz bottle within a day n half. I honestly felt good about the drinking it too. Knowing that I am putting helpful probiotics into my stomach with something so drinkable and refreshing, inspired me to make healthier decisions throughout the rest of my day. I went on a 3.5 mile run that evening and ate a delicious quinoa & mushroom recipe that Jesse makes. Another really cool service that Sunny Culture offers is their local delivery service. If you live in the St. Petersburg, Tampa, & Sarasota area, then you can have Sunny Culture delivered right to your doorstep each week! You can scroll down to see what it looks like when it is delivered.
The 32oz bottles are delivered in this cooler bag with ice packs. Note: It will NOT come with an empty bottle like in this picture. I drank it before I took this pic! 😜
I hope you enjoyed this blog and found it helpful. If so please share it with a friend and help them discover this refreshing and healthy new drink!
